Chapter 1 New home

20 years later...

"Mother, how far away is it now?" Melody asked in a curious tone, her blue eyes looked out at the sea many miles below. The wind briskly blew her hair out of her face when she tilted her head up to see grey clouds rolling in.

"Melody I have told you to stay away from the railings, and its that big patch of land over up ahead. Its so nice to get away from that awful little cottage isn't it Melody?"

Melody stared up ahead to where her mom was pointing, and she slowly turned her head to her mom. "Why yes, I guess, though I wish Mandy and her family would come along too." Melody continued to stare at the shore line having nothing else to say.

"Get ready to port on the harbor! We will be arriving in Hyrule in five minutes!" A sailor called out to all the tired passengers.

"Good heavens, we've only been on this boat for about two days ever since we left Labrynna! What a wonderful trip. Melody, won't you mind if you grab my bags over there by that nice fellow?" Melody's mom pointed to a man in his mid fifties.

"Yes ma'am." Melody walked over and briefly looked out at a dark castle. She looked back up at it when a sudden look of fear came across her face.

'I'm being ridiculous, I wouldn't know why anyone would build such an intimidating castle.' Melody mentally corrected herself and grabbed the old bags and tugged them back over to where her mother was sitting.

"Mother, do you know about that castle over there?" Melody asked. Her mother wasn't paying any attention to her, her eyes were closed as she had fallen asleep.

"Goodness, mother you really need something for that." Melody sat in the seat next to her mother, the swaying of the ship relaxing her, she turned to look at the looming castle again, then back to the mainland, then to the castle.

Maybe she'll ask about it when her mother has the energy to talk.

Melody also heard that this land had a princess as well, and her name is Zelda, Melody had always wanted to get on the good side of everybody, especially the royals.

Melody had always helped around the castle for a little pocket money for food and rent. Each time she helped the more money she would get. Melody smiled at the wonderful memories of helping all the stressed and tired vassals.

"We are here!" Called the sailor again.

"Mother! Time to go now!" Melody shook her mother, her green eyes opened to see others leaving and more people coming in to replace them.

"That fast? Well lets go. Melody, once I show you where you and I are staying, I want you to explore a little and mingle." Melody's mother took on a more serious tone as she started to warn her about the other people.

"But, Melody you stay away from those bad people, I heard there are bloodsuckers around here."

Melody glanced over at the castle, her platinum blond hair twirling around her as she left the boat. Her mother followed closely behind already searching for the ‘bloodsuckers’.

Melody shook her head, and giggled lightly from how cautious her mother was. “Mother? Are you talking about Vampires? Aren’t those supposed to be legend?” Melody Questioned, her childish expression leaving her.

“Aye Melody, this land has many legends, one of which is a Vampire story, we mustn’t really speak of him though.” Frannie, Melody’s mother, grabbed her daughter’s arm and forcefully pulled her with her.

During the walk, Melody noticed that everyone was rushing inside their homes, saying stuff like; “You people best be headin indoors before he arrives in about a few hours. He doesn’t want anyone stopping him during his hunt.” A fisherman said warningly.

Melody pulled her arm free, she looked back at the fisherman with questioning eyes. “Why sir, who is this hunter, and what is he hunting?” Melody stepped up to the old sea hermit, hoping for some more information about Hyrule.

“Aye me young blossom, This man is unlike any normal man, he moves as quick as the wind; some say he even controls the wind and has some of the most oddest features.” The old fisherman pointed over at the looming castle that sat many miles away from the harbor.
“Melody, lets go. We don’t need you to be learning about this place so soon.”

“Why mother, you did say that i should explore an-”

“Nevermind that, I didn’t think that it would be time for him to arrive.” Frannie grabbed hold of her arm once again. The couple waved goodbye to their friends and tipped the fisherman with a grateful amount of ten rupees. They fled as quickly as they could to their house.

Soon they were walking into more wooded areas, a dirt path could be seen off in the distance. “Almost there Melody, it is just a little more deeper into the countryside.” Frannie excitedly put her hands in the air in hopes that it would help the mood in the air.

“Mother, is that a dog I hear?” Melody wriggled free of her mother’s grip and pointed over at the dirt road where the pained yelps and howls could be heard. She stopped in the middle of the road, and turned to the direction where she could see a deep purple coach being pulled by giant wolves.

“Melody! Get out of the way!” Frannie screamed, Melody backed away from the road and watched the coach gradually slow down. Melody wondered just what kind of person would own two giant wolves.

The coach door slowly swung open to reveal a man with blood red eyes. He looked at the old woman then to Melody then to the tired wolves.

“Please do excuse me, but what are your names? I’ll even explain why if you so insist.” The man asked mostly to Melody who was studying the strange man. Melody felt red eyes staring into hers and she stared up at his.

‘What an odd color, never seen a man with blood red eyes.’ Melody thought.

“I am Frannie, and please do explain I rather you take my life than my precious daughter’s.” Frannie put her hands on both of Melody’s shoulders and staring down the strange man. “While you're at it, tell us your name.” Frannie added.

The strange man chuckled and nodded his head. “Right, my apologies for asking first. My name is Vaati, just Vaati. Now yours?” Vaati asked Melody, he walked toward her and smiled.

“I don’t believe i want to share, since when do strangers suddenly ask random people on the road what their names were; how can i be so sure that you won’t hurt me?” Melody questioned with little more courage than Vaati expected.

“How right you are, would you please accompany me for dinner? I will drop you off at your house or here if you want. I wish to know some things about you, for i have never seen your beautiful face.” Vaati motioned to the coach, his hand outstretched for Melody to take.
“I do suppose so, if  you try anything, anything at all I have my ways of escaping. Mother?” Melody turned and asked a very different Frannie.

“I suppose so, we can’t be out though, for the vampire may snatch us and bite our necks.” Frannie said warningly. Vaati chuckled darkly at the statement, but didn't say anything else.

Melody grabbed hold of Vaati’s hands, she shuddered from how cold they were. “Your.. hands, they’re so cold.” Melody felt cold fingers intertwine with hers as she was lifted into the coach.

“Winter air, what can you do?” Vaati chuckled at her reaction, and helped Frannie into the coach. Melody examined his long hair that covered half of his back while some light purple hair covered one of his eyes.

His attire was all purple themed; Melody adored the color, but was weirded out by the strange man. Vaati took a seat and snapped his fingers. The coach began to move slowly, then at a faster rate.

"So Vaati was it? Strange name for a man like yourself." Melody broke the silence and stared intriguingly at Vaati, her gaze trapped on his face rather than the beautiful countryside.

"To be quite honest, I don't remember why I was named Vaati. I suppose you are travelers, yes?" Vaati leaned back in his seat and rested his head on a pillow that was set behind his head.

"Yes, we traveled very far from Labrynna. Right moth-" Melody turned her head to her mother that slept soundly.

"Old people, so very old, but still have the youth in their souls." Vaati whistled, he examined the young girl and how her eyes, blue sparkling pools stared into his own.

"Those eyes..." Vaati whispered while leaning forward to examine them further. Melody backed up when his face was too close to hers.

"Pardon?" Melody asked, wondering just what was going on with Vaati.

"Are you Melody? I have been searching for a girl named Melody for quite some time, are you her?" Vaati waited for a reply of some form. Melody hesitated as she thought over the cons.

"Y-yes, my name is Melody. Is it me that you want?" Vaati nodded his head slowly unsure if this was his Melody.

Vaati notice an old doll poked out of one of Melody's pocket. "That doll, let me see it." Vaati held out his hand and urged Melody to put it in his hands.

"I gave you this doll, I gave you the name Melody. Melody, my Melody." Vaati whispered. Melody took back the doll, touching his ice cold hands.

"Are we related?" Melody froze when Vaati pulled her to him. Melody shivered uncontrollably under his touch. "No, but I know you. Ever since I found you as a newborn, I had an image of your future. I need you for something very important." Vaati whispered in her ear.

"You're so cold, why?" Melody slid off of Vaati's and onto the seat next to him.

"I don't feel like explaining that. Please, you look tired, sleep." Vaati whispered to the the tired girl next to him. Melody felt her eyes become heavy, she struggled to keep them open.

"I shall tell you when we are there, but its a long way." Vaati chuckled when Melody yawned and finally gave up keeping her eyes open.

Vaati made sure she was asleep before he allowed himself to relax for the rest of the trip. With only his mind and the option to sleep as well keeping him occupied.
Here we are! You can see where I'm going with Vaati now I'm sure. Now Melody isn't related to Vaati. I know in the prolouge it sounded like that, but no. Melody is now 19 years old in this setting. Frannie is 78.

Oh, sounds nice. I wonder if they were just tired, or Vaati cast a sleeping spell....Hyrule sounds...dark. But anyways, a great setting, and I can't wait for more.
